LA City Repeats Superficial Events… Unable to Protect Residents’ Daily Lives, Let Alone Prepare for World Cup

[Los Angeles | July 26, 2025] Ahead of the 2026 World Cup, LA City is conducting a massive urban beautification campaign called “Shine LA.” One-day cleanups, graffiti removal, and tree planting events appear to show active citizen participation on the surface. However, residents’ reactions are cold. Criticism is mounting that “the city is rotting from within, but the mayor is just painting over it every day.“
Superficial Beautification Campaign: Symbol of ‘Politics for Media’
Mayor Karen Bass appears daily at these sites, taking photos with volunteers and expressing gratitude. City council members echo in unison that “the city is shining.” Yet beyond these photo opportunities, thousands of homeless individuals remain defenseless against drugs and mental illness, abandoned on sidewalks and bus stops.
The saying “this isn’t city beautification, it’s political beautification” doesn’t come from nowhere.
World Cup & Olympics? Current LA Should Worry About ‘International Embarrassment’ First
It’s too early to celebrate securing the World Cup.
- Metro rail systems face daily reports of drugs and crime
- Downtown has transformed into a tent city for the homeless
- Crime rates still weigh heavily on citizens’ steps
“They say they’ll welcome world guests, but the house inside is still a garbage dump.” When such words come from citizens’ mouths, there’s clearly something broken in that nation’s administration.
“What Needs Cleaning Isn’t Trash, But Administrative Incompetence”
Urban decay isn’t simply a matter of dirtiness. It’s a complex disaster combining public policy failures, lack of balanced regional development, collapse of public safety, and housing instability.
Yet the mayor keeps repeating only cleanup events, citizen participation campaigns, and photo shoots. Citizens’ voices are growing louder: “We know this might be all you can do, but if this is all you will do, there’s no reason for you to be in that position.”
Citizens Are No Longer Fooled by Packaging
For LA to truly shine, what’s needed now is:
- Comprehensive homeless response policy
- Public order restoration
- Substantial middle-class housing stability measures
- And effective administrative capacity for regional economic recovery
Flower-lined paths don’t matter. If violence and drug addiction await at the end of those paths, the world won’t be moved — it will be horrified.
